Tourism sector constituting the 9 percent of the global income and also employing one person for each 11 people in the world is the most important sector for most countries with its 6 percent share in total global export. Tourism is a sector that ensures international capital liquidity by inflow of foreign currency, makes contribution to the local economy by increasing employment rates and also ensures international cultural interaction.
Tourism revenues occupy an important place in countries’ economies. It is also a significant income resource for Turkey with its geographic location and both historical and natural beauties.
Turkey made huge investments in tourism sector in last 30 years and in 2017, Turkey become the 6th country with 38,6 million tourists that it hosted in its lands. Moreover, in the same year, it became the 12th country with 28 billion USD that it earned from tourism revenues. As of the date of 2023, Turkey is expecting 50 million tourists and 50 billion USD per year.
