Tourism Sector
The tourism sector, which accounts for 9% of the world's gross domestic product and employs one out of every 11 workers, is a crucial industry in many countries, with a 6% share of total exports. It plays a key role in driving economic activity by increasing foreign currency inflows, enhancing domestic employment, contributing to national economies, and fostering intercultural interaction globally.
Tourism revenue is a significant component of national economies worldwide. Due to its geographical location and historical and natural beauty, tourism is also an important income source for Turkey.
Turkey has made significant investments in the tourism sector over the last thirty years, ranking 6th in the world in 2017 with 38.6 million tourists hosted and generating $28 billion in revenue, placing it 12th globally. As of 2023, Turkey aims to host 50 million tourists annually and generate $50 billion in income.
