Murat KOÇ completed his undergraduate degree in 1994 at Istanbul University Faculty of Economics and his master's degree in 2001 at Marmara University Banking and Insurance Institute with a thesis titled "Issues and Solutions in the Accounting and Taxation of Index-Based Futures Contracts." His doctoral work at the same institute is currently at the thesis stage.
Starting his career in 1994, he worked for one year as an auditor assistant in the independent auditing sector. Between 1995 and 2012, he held various positions at Takasbank, including Assistant Inspector, Inspector, Risk Management Director, and Head of the Audit Board. During this time, he contributed to the structuring and operation of Takasbank's internal audit and risk management systems, as well as to many projects such as the preparation of the accounting system infrastructure, the establishment of settlement/collateral mechanisms for futures markets, and the lending share market.
He also taught courses as a guest lecturer at Marmara University's Banking and Insurance School and has served as an expert witness in over 40 legal cases and disputes related to banking and capital markets.
Between 2013 and 2019, KOÇ served as a Board Member and Vice Chairman of the Capital Markets Board of Turkey (SPK), where he contributed to the preparation of secondary regulations within the scope of the Capital Market Law, as well as to regulation, supervision, corporate governance, licensing processes for investment institutions and issuers, and the Board's international relations.
After completing his term and leaving the Board at the end of 2019, KOÇ now provides consultancy services in valuation, corporate finance, capital markets, and corporate governance at Vizyon Group Management Consultancy.
